Travel journal: an insider's view of the Mini Maxi print Berlin exhibition

An exciting experience at the Heike Arndt gallery

Florence Jalice at Galleri Heike Arndt

Mini maxi print Berlin is an annual group exhibition of contemporary printmaking curated by Heike Arndt Gallery.

On its website, the gallery describes the exhibition as “49 carefully selected graphic artists will be expressing their views on contemporary challenges facing society and raising questions about our humanity”. I am delighted to exhibit six linocuts from my “contemplations iodées” series in this show.

I am delighted that my work is being presented at Heike Arndt Gallery

Heike Arndt, who is an artist herself, knows how to bring together works of artists from all over the world. My prints hang next to those of Nanako Hattori (Japan) on the left and Anna Kiiskinen (Germany) on the right. Although our worlds are very different, our prints are great together!

The gallery team has put a lot of work into preparing this exhibition, and has taken the trouble to write a text about the works presented. Here is what it says about the six prints I'm showing:

“Florence Jalice’s lino prints explore the relationship between colour, form and texture. Using carefully selected colour tones, she creates vibrant, energetic seascapes.

Although her works are small, they are eye-catching and allow the viewer to feel the fresh air of an early cool morning. In her minimalist works, Jalice uses monochrome shapes and patterns to create calm compositions in a simple style. Her prints have a recognisable and familiar character, even though they contain few specific details. It is as if the images blur slightly, leaving only the essential shapes and colours visible, almost like the memory of a landscape in which certain details fade but the overall picture remains clear.

In her compositions, Jalice focuses on capturing the atmosphere and emotion of a landscape rather than its precise details. As a result, her linocuts will evoke a different perception in each viewer: Some will see an impressionistic quality, while others will view them like undeveloped film stills that hint at a scene without fully revealing it. By capturing the essence of nature in a simple yet effective way, the works invite quiet contemplation. Each work invites the viewer to slow down and savour the beauty of nature in its stillness and clarity.

A superb display and a welcoming atmosphere

As mentioned above, the exhibition layout is superb and well worth a visit!  You can get an idea here...

A number of artists came to the opening on the 4th October. It was a real pleasure to celebrate the opening of the exhibition with, among others, Hélène Bascoul and Xecon Udin from France, Anna Kiiskinen, Kerstin Lichblau and Emilee Sheldon from Germany, Hazel Roberts from Great Britain and Rita Vandevorst from Belgium.

And we're continuing to make wonderful long-distance encounters, for example with Nanko Hattori from Japan and Laurence Finet from Canada... Please take some time to admire their work on the gallery's website.

An exhibition to see in Berlin or online until spring...

The Heike Arndt gallery is presenting Mini maxi print 2024 - 2025 until spring; if you happen to go to Berlin between now and April 2025, you will probably want to visit, especially as the gallery is located in a vibrant district of East Berlin. If you cannot make it, feel free to explore the gallery's website and online store
